If your payout was denied for "consistency", it almost always means your biggest single day (or, at The5ers Futures, your biggest single trade) was too large a share of your total profit, and at most firms the fix is to keep trading until that share drops below the limit. The limit, what counts as "profit", and whether the rule applies to funded accounts at all differ firm by firm, so the table below lists the current rule at eleven firms we track, each checked on the firm's own pages in October 2026.

What a consistency rule actually measures

Almost every version is the same fraction: largest day ÷ total profit ≤ the limit. Turned around: total profit you need = largest day ÷ the limit. Apex publishes exactly this shortcut: a $1,500 best day under its 50% rule means at least $3,000 of net profit. The details that decide whether you get paid:

  • The limit. From 15% (Goat's Instant Funding GOAT model) to 50% (Apex, FTMO 1-Step).
  • The denominator. Apex uses net profit, so losing days shrink it. FTMO uses "Positive Days' Profit", the sum of winning days only. Topstep uses total net profit.
  • Day or trade. The5ers Futures and Maven's Mini measure your best trade.
  • The window. Apex and Topstep reset after each approved payout. Goat measures per payout period.
  • The consequence. At most firms, failing blocks the payout request but doesn't breach the account. Maven's funded rule above $5,000 profit trims the profit instead.

A worked example (hypothetical numbers)

Invented numbers to show the math. Four days since the last payout: Day 1 +$1,800, Day 2 −$300, Day 3 +$400, Day 4 +$500.

  • 50% rule on net profit (Apex-style): net $2,400; best day is 75%. Required: $1,800 ÷ 0.50 = $3,600, so $1,200 more net. Another losing day raises that.
  • 50% rule on positive days (FTMO-style): winning days sum to $2,700; best day 66.7%. Required $3,600 of winning-day profit, so $900 more; losing days don't move it.
  • 40% rule on net profit (Topstep Consistency path, FundedNext Rapid Pro): $1,800 ÷ 0.40 = $4,500, so $2,100 more.
  • The trap: if Day 5 is +$2,000, it becomes the new best day and the 50% requirement jumps to $4,000. Chasing the target with size can move the target.
  • The Maven exception: Maven's own example for funded profit above $5,000: a $5,000 day then a $3,000 day makes the withdrawable amount $6,000, not $8,000, unless you keep trading to bring the best day under 50%.

Why consistency denials happen

  • A later big day moved the goalposts.
  • A losing day shrank the denominator. Apex's example: $1,000 profit then a $200 loss is 125% consistency.
  • The rule was about trades, not days (The5ers Futures).
  • The day boundary wasn't where you thought: Topstep locks at 4:00 PM CT, FTMO starts at 00:00 CE(S)T, Goat runs 5 PM to 5 PM EST.
  • Open positions counted (FunderPro measures equity).
  • You were on a different path than you assumed (Topstep's Express Funded has two).

Planning around a consistency rule

  1. Work out your daily ceiling first: for payout goal T, every day must stay below limit × T. For $3,000 under 40%, that's $1,200 a day.
  2. After a big day, write down the new required total: best day ÷ limit.
  3. Don't size up to catch up. Missing a consistency target costs time; breaching drawdown costs the account.
  4. Learn your firm's day boundary and what counts.
  5. Use the dashboard metric where offered (FTMO shows Best Day in Account MetriX).
  6. Reread the rule each payout cycle. Apex's page was modified April 2026; FundedNext stopped selling Rapid and Bolt on 10 July 2026.
  7. If your style makes big days, pick accordingly. Several funded accounts here have no consistency rule (Take Profit Trader PRO, Earn2Trade LiveSim, MFFU Rapid, FunderPro funded, FundedNext Legacy and Flex funded, Topstep Standard path); they use other gates instead.

FAQ

Can a firm deny a payout for consistency after I passed? Yes, if the funded account has its own rule (Apex, FTMO 1-Step, The5ers, MFFU Builder).

Do I lose my account if I fail it? At Apex, FTMO, Goat, MFFU, Earn2Trade, FundedNext Futures and Take Profit Trader, no; you keep trading until you meet it. Maven's funded rule above $5,000 trims the payout instead.

Do losing days count? At Apex they reduce net profit and worsen the ratio. FTMO's rule uses only winning days.

Does it reset after a payout? At Apex and on Topstep's Consistency path, yes. Elsewhere, check your account's payout policy.

I think the firm got the math wrong. Export your daily P&L, recompute with the firm's published definition and day boundary, and send it to support in writing. Our methodology counts payout-denial complaints, and our payout evidence guide shows each firm's record.
