How to check if a prop firm payout screenshot is real

A payout screenshot proves almost nothing on its own. How to verify one: tx hash, wallet, amount, date, and the firm-side evidence behind it.

A payout screenshot on its own proves only that someone produced an image: it cannot show that money moved, who sent it, or how many other traders were paid. To check one, match it to something the poster cannot edit, such as a transaction hash on a public blockchain, an entry on an independent payout tracker, or the firm's own published rules and figures, and treat anything you cannot match as a claim rather than a receipt.

No firm pays us for anything on this page. Not financial advice. How we make money.

What a screenshot can and cannot prove

A genuine screenshot tells you that one person, at one moment, saw a payout in a dashboard, wallet or bank app. That is all. It cannot tell you:

  • That it is unedited. Changing a number in an image takes seconds.
  • That the money arrived. A "payout approved" screen is not a deposit.
  • That the firm sent it. A wallet transfer from an unknown address could come from anyone, including the poster.
  • How common it is. Topstep published its 2025 funnel: 33.3% of individuals who reached its Funded level received a payout. A feed of real Topstep screenshots shows you that third and none of the other two thirds. Screenshots are survivors by definition.

Firm-generated images are a step up but not a solution. Topstep creates "Proof of Payout" cards in the dashboard for payouts since 1 January 2026. Inside the dashboard, that card is the firm's own record. Once downloaded and posted, it is a PNG like any other.

Red flags of a fake or misleading screenshot

  • No date, or a cropped date. A payout without a date can't be checked against anything.
  • No reference. No transaction hash, payout ID or wallet address.
  • An amount the firm's rules don't allow. Topstep caps an Express Funded Account payout at $2,000 per request on a $50K Standard path ($4,000 under a limited-time Daily Loss Limit option). A "$9,000 XFA payout from my 50K" doesn't fit the published rules.
  • Arithmetic that ignores splits and fees. Topstep's own example: a $500 ACH request arrives as $420 after the 10% split and a $30 fee. A suspiciously round received amount may be gross, or invented.
  • A dashboard that doesn't look like the current one. Mismatched fonts, misaligned digits, an old design, wrong currency formatting.
  • Who posted it. An affiliate code in the bio doesn't make an image fake. It makes it selected.
  • Crypto payouts, but never a hash. If a firm pays on-chain, a verifiable receipt exists.

How to verify

On-chain payouts: hash, wallet, amount, date. If the firm pays in crypto, or through Rise (which settles on public blockchains), every payout leaves a public record. Ask for the transaction hash and check on a block explorer:

  1. The hash resolves on the claimed network.
  2. The sender is the firm (compare with an address attributed to it on an independent tracker or published by the firm).
  3. The token is the real token: check the contract, not the ticker.
  4. The amount matches the screenshot.
  5. The timestamp matches the date claimed.

Sharing a hash exposes the poster's wallet history, so a reasonable person may decline. It also means an unverified screenshot stays unverified. What a good match looks like: in our payout evidence guide we cite an independent reviewer who matched a 414.84 USDC Propr payout to the firm's dashboard to six decimal places. That is a receipt.

Independent trackers. Payout Junction follows the wallets prop firms pay from and counts a payout only after matching it on-chain. On 4 October 2026 it listed $1,645,529,759 across 948,312 payouts at 39 firms. Check whether a firm is listed and when its latest payout was. Limits: it can't see bank or card rails, and a firm missing from it isn't evidence of non-payment (Topstep pays by Aeropay, ACH, Wise and wire; Maven offers bank transfer or Rise).

Bank-rail payouts can't be verified publicly. The best evidence is a firm record seen live in the dashboard, ideally with the matching bank entry.

Certificates are images the firm issues about itself. One on the firm's own site is harder to fake than one on social media, but it is still the firm vouching for the firm.

Published funnels give the best context. Topstep's 2025 figures (16.8% of Trading Combines completed, 33.3% of funded individuals paid) are the only full funnel published by a firm we track. Take Profit Trader discloses that 36.22% of Trading Tests were passed in 2025 (16.86% in 2024): a pass rate, not a payout rate, but a number you can hold it to.

Why sudden silence matters

Screenshot feeds are marketing, and marketing doesn't stop by accident. When a firm that posted payouts daily goes quiet, its tracked wallet stops sending, or its website disappears, that is a cheap early signal. The clearest case we track: The Funded Trader, which had a multi-month payout pause in 2024, had both domains return HTTP 402 (a disabled deployment) when we checked on 4 September 2026. It now scores 0/100 (Red, because its official site is offline). Our methodology treats payout pauses and offline sites as triggers for an immediate review.

The 6-step checklist

  1. Find the date and reference. No date or hash means it's a claim, not a receipt.
  2. Check it against the firm's payout rules. Caps, minimums, split, fees.
  3. If paid on-chain, verify the hash. Network, sender, token contract, amount, timestamp.
  4. Cross-check an independent tracker. Listed? Latest verified payout?
  5. Look at who posted it and why.
  6. Put it in context. Find a funnel or pass rate, and check whether payout activity has gone quiet.

How PropVitals tiers payout evidence

  1. On-chain verified: matched to public transactions. A floor the firm can't inflate.
  2. Firm-supplied to a third party: itemised and dated, but only as honest as the firm.
  3. Self-reported totals: the "$X million paid" banner.
  4. Published funnels: what share passed and what share got paid.

Below all four sits the negative receipt: a payout pause, a site offline, a firm gone quiet. Screenshots support a payout record (40% of our score) but rank below tiers 1 and 2. See the full tier list for all fifteen firms.
